He turned to face me again. For him, it may have been easier to go without saying goodbye, but I couldn't. If I was going to possibly visit another reality in hopes of saving what was left of our world, I couldn't go without -- could I even think it -- one final farewell.
"C'mere."
It was barely audible, but I came. I stood before my General, leader among men; and my Jack . . . my love, my fiance.
Wrapped in his arms. Then, too soon, he touched his lips to my cheek.
I touched his cheek, and he walked away.
