Back when you wrote this, it looks like you were not totally clear on what the US military academies are and how you get admitted. For future reference, U.S. Service Academy graduates receive a first-rate undergraduate education, equivalent to that provided by a top-tier, Ivy League school, with options to pursue advanced degrees; spend a minimum of 5 years serving their country on active duty as a military officer; and are provided with an education and experience that will provide a world of career opportunities. The full four-year scholarship is valued at more than $350,000 which includes tuition, room and board, medical and dental care and a monthly salary. Students learn discipline, moral ethics and teamwork in a structured environment that fosters leadership and character development. Military service or a Congressional nomination is required for an appointment to the United States Naval Academy, Military Academy, Air Force Academy or Merchant Marine Academy. Congressmen appoint applicants from their districts. Also, the Vice President makes appointments as well. Each academy gets about 1000 freshmen each year, but I think only about a third of them make it to graduation.

Sam could not have gone to the Academy here. First, it is a 4 year university with all the normal majors. Jack could not have graduated a fighter pilot either. He could have sought that training after graduation. She already had her Bachelors degree. Second, you can't have dependents. When you are accepted into the USAFA, you are in the USAF. She would have gone on active duty after graduation.
