I was so not prepared for Ashley and the baby to die :( While she was not my favorite character (almost afraid to say that) having her out of the picture like this really was hard. Glad Sam is there to help Jack through the grieving, and to know that they will be a great family together with Katie.

Why oh why if Jack loves Sam so much does he keep sleeping with Ashley? I am just not understanding this... and Ashley deserves so much more than that if she knows he does love Sam.

Author's Response: I see Jack as a man who feels deeply for people, even though he may not always show it. He does love Ashley. He just doesn't love her in the same way he loves Sam. He feels responsible for Ashley, and for her situation, and when Jack feels responsible for someone, he can't turn away from them no matter how much he might be hurting himself. Remember the motto he lives by in the field? Never leave a man behind? Well, this is sort of like that. Also, he's got insecurities which are always nagging at him. So when Sam tells him how wrong he is for her, he can't see that she's just lashing back at him the only way she knows how. I know it's hard to see Jack with someone other than Sam, but remember, she's the one who accepted Pete's ring when she could have turned him down. What was Jack supposed to do, become a monk? He's a man with a man's needs, the first of which is to be needed by a woman, to be responsible for her and care for her, and Ashley is much more needy than Sam. I often think it was Sam's "I'm a woman, hear me roar" attitude that kept Jack and Sam apart in the TV show. Well, that and some dumb ass writers who were afraid of insulting the Air Force. And they're Canadians, for crying out loud!

Ok, I will admit you are slightly forgiven with this chapter, but I am still peeved at Jack hoping from one to the other...such a guy - lol!

Really enjoying this, as it is always nice to see them inch closer and closer to admitting their feelings - but you still have me worried about Ashley..ugh!

Please please please have Sam drop Pete like a bad habit. He's just so wrong for Sam on so many levels. Jack and a Sam replacement, yeah...why do I think that could end up badly...is Sam the only one expecting a child....??? I apologize for my overactive imagination, lol. Please feed me more of this story!!!
